Myth:

Gene testing tells you the future, and I don't want to know.

Truth:

Nothing can predict the future. Your DNA only indicates your predispositions, and genes interact with your lifestyle and environment. Knowing your risks puts you more in control of prevention.

Scripps Genomic Medicine

Navigenics is working with noted cardiologist and researcher Eric J. Topol, M.D., director of the Scripps Genomic Medicine Program and Translational Science Institute, to research the predictive value of genetic risk markers, outcomes and behavior modification efficacy.

Scripps Genomic Medicine, an initiative of Scripps Health in collaboration with the Scripps Research Institute, will support basic research and clinical programs focused on defining the genes that underlie susceptibility to disease.

Scripps Genomic Medicine is creating a landmark biorepository for genetic research and study. Working hand-in-hand with volunteers from the more than half-million individual Scripps Health patients annually, Scripps is genotyping and storing genetic data on thousands of individuals of diverse ancestry. Once catalogued, the genetic information can be used to identify and better define those genes that play vital roles in disease and health. These findings are taken directly into drug discovery programs, gene-based clinical trials and patient care.

Founded in 1924 by philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, the Scripps legacy of clinical research and discovery spans more than 80 years.
