David Brailer, M.D., Ph.D.

Most recently, Dr. Brailer founded and became chairman of Health Evolution Partners, a private equity fund focused on transforming the health-care industry through greater efficiency, quality and responsiveness to consumers. Dr. Brailer was our nation's first national coordinator for health information technology, appointed to that position by President Bush in 2004. In just two years, Dr. Brailer set the nation's health-care industry on a course toward modernized health information standards, certification of health information tools, state-of-the-art information-sharing architectures and new policies for protection of consumer privacy. Prior to his role in the federal government, he was senior fellow at the Health Technology Center in San Francisco, providing strategic advice to health-care organizations about the future impact of technology in health-care delivery.

Dr. Brailer also founded and was chairman and CEO of CareScience, Inc., a leading provider of care management services that set a new standard for health-care quality and accountability by developing the nation's first online physician and hospital quality reports, reducing medical errors and helping to improve physician and hospital performance. Dr. Brailer received his B.A. and M.D. at West Virginia University, and a Ph.D. in economics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
