Myth:

If I know my family's health history, I don't need a genetic test.

Truth:

Family history is only one part of your health future. For example, most cases of breast cancer are found in women who have no family history.

Using funds from your FSA or HSA

Are you enrolled in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)?  If so, you can use the funds in your account to purchase our genetic testing and take advantage of the tax savings that your plan offers. The Navigenics genetic testing service is considered an eligible health expense under the IRS Code Section §213 (d)(1)(a) for reimbursement from Flexible Spending Accounts (Section 125 of IRS Code) and Health Savings Accounts (Section 223 of IRS Code).

Here are two ways to take advantage of these plans when purchasing our service:

  1. Use your FSA or HSA credit card. During the purchase process, you can use your FSA or HSA credit card.  Navigenics is an IIAS participating merchant, so the funds will be deducted from your FSA or HSA and you will not be required to substantiate your expense.
  2. Or, submit your receipt for reimbursement.

At any time after purchasing, you can submit the receipt for our service to your FSA or HSA administrator.  To print your receipt, please follow these steps:

  • Go to www.navigenics.com and sign in to your account.
  • Click on "My Account" at the top right of the screen.
  • In the navigation bar at the left side of the page, click on "Receipts."
  • Choose the type of receipt you’d like to print, and use the drop-down menu to select from available years. (Note: The same receipt can be used for FSA and HSA reimbursement.)
  • Click on a particular year for a printable copy of that receipt, and submit it to your FSA or HSA claims department along with any additional forms that may be required by the provider.
